January 29: Acts 26:15 - When God Speaks (Today's Reflection from My Utmost For His Highest)

Daily Bible Verse - Acts 26:15:  "Who are You, Sir?"

There are moments when God speaks in a way that leaves no room for escape. Not through a voice we hear with our ears, but through circumstances that take hold of our understanding. When He speaks like this, His insistence is unmistakable — intimate, authoritative, and deeply personal.

Chambers reminds us that God often has to dismantle our confidence in our own convictions. We think we know what we should do. We think our intentions are pure. We think our plans are spiritual. And then the Lord interrupts us, revealing how little we truly understand.

It is sobering to realize that we can serve Jesus in a spirit that is not His.
Our words may sound right.
Our actions may look right.
But the spirit behind them may be self‑driven, defensive, or proud.

Jesus rebuked His own disciples for this very thing:
“You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.”

We can push His truth with the wrong tone.
We can defend His name with the wrong heart.
We can pursue “duty” in a way that wounds the One we claim to serve.

The spirit of Jesus is described in 1 Corinthians 13 — patient, kind, humble, gentle, enduring. A spirit that yields. A spirit that loves. A spirit that delights in the Father’s will.

So the question becomes painfully honest:
Have I been persecuting Jesus by trying to serve Him in my own way?

If my obedience leaves me self‑satisfied but leaves Him grieved, it was never obedience.
If my “duty” hardens me instead of humbling me, it was never His assignment.
If unpleasantness becomes my measure of faithfulness, I have misunderstood His heart.

Jesus did not say, “I endure to do Your will.”
He said, “I delight to do Your will, O my God.”

True obedience carries the fragrance of His Spirit — meek, quiet, surrendered, joyful.
Not driven.
Not defensive.
Not self‑assured.

When God reveals our ignorance, it is not to shame us.
It is to draw us into a deeper knowing — of Him, of His Spirit, and of the way He desires to be served.

Prayer

Lord, speak into the places where I still trust my own understanding. Let Your voice interrupt my assumptions and soften the spirit behind my obedience. Teach me to serve You with the gentleness of Christ, not the urgency of my own convictions. Reveal where I have acted in my own strength, and lead me into the humility that delights in Your will.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Breath Prayer

Inhale: Teach me Your Spirit.
Exhale: Undo my own way.

Benediction

May the Lord uncover every hidden confidence that keeps you from His Spirit’s gentleness. May His voice come to you in the language you know best, guiding you into a quieter, truer obedience. And as you yield your way to His, may you find the deep rest of walking in the spirit of Christ alone.

Present (John 14:9)

Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest Devotional of the Day — Home Page John 14:9 "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?" ...He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Philip stood in front of Jesus and still asked to see the Father. Jesus told him that seeing Him was seeing the Father. God was right there, and Philip didn’t recognize Him. We are the same way. God is with us, guiding us, steadying us, revealing Himself in quiet ways — yet we often look for something dramatic. Faith is trusting the God we cannot see, the God who is already here.   Philip wasn't asking out of rebellion.  Philip was asking out of longing — the same longing we feel. But Jesus’ response reveals something deeper:  “Have I been with you so long, and you still don’t know Me?” We want to see God with our eyes, hear Him with our ears, and sense His nearness the way we sense another person in the room. That is hum...

Meaning of Forgiveness: Key Bible Verses, Jesus' Command to Forgive, How to Forgive, and a Prayer

Devotional of the Day — Home Page Summary:  Meaning of Forgiveness Forgiveness is at the center of the gospel — Jesus commands it, models it, and makes it possible through His sacrifice. We are forgiven of every sin, even those not yet committed, and invited to receive His grace with childlike humility. Because God has forgiven us so completely, we are called to release grudges, let go of past hurts, and forgive others from the heart. Forgiveness does not require confronting anyone; it is a private act between you and God, a cleansing that frees your spirit. When forgiveness feels impossible, we can lay our pain at His feet and ask Him to remove the bitterness we cannot overcome alone. Sometimes the hardest forgiveness is toward ourselves, but Jesus meets us there too. God invites us to surrender every burden and receive His healing grace. Dec 2: 1 Peter 5:7 Do Not Worry (Daily Verse & Prayer)

Devotional of the Day — Home Page 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you ." — KJV Worry has a way of creeping into our hearts, especially when life feels uncertain. Yet this verse reminds us that we are not meant to carry the weight alone. God’s care is not distant or abstract — it is personal, tender, and constant. Every detail of our lives matters to Him. When we release our burdens into His hands, we exchange anxiety for peace. It doesn’t mean the challenges disappear, but it does mean we walk through them with courage, knowi ng the Lord is holding us steady. Today, let us practice surrender by naming our worries and laying them before Him, trusting His love to carry what we cannot. Prayer Father, I lay my worries at Your feet.  Please give me calm for my mind and courage for my work, and remind me -   You hold every detail.  In Jesus' precious, holy name I pray, Amen.  I pray your day be free from worry and your mind calm, ~ Quil ...
