March 27: Revelation 4:1 - Friend, Come Up Higher (Today's Reflection from My Utmost For His Highest)
Bible Verse
Revelation 4:1"Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place ..."
A higher state of spiritual vision is never reached by accident. It is the fruit of a life that chooses the higher practice of personal character — the daily decisions that align our outer life with the truth God has already formed within. When we live up to the highest light we have, God continually whispers to the heart, Friend, come up higher.
There is a rule woven into every temptation: it always calls you upward. But the source of that call determines its outcome. When Satan elevates, he lifts you into an impossible perfection — a version of holiness no human could ever sustain. You find yourself balancing on a spiritual steeple, clinging to your own performance, afraid to move, afraid to fail, afraid to fall. That is not God’s elevation.
When God elevates you by His grace, He brings you into a wide and spacious place — a plateau where you can walk freely, breathe deeply, and move about with ease. His elevation is not pressure; it is invitation. Not acrobatics; but rest. Not fear; but freedom.
Look back over your life — even just this past year. Can you see how God has drawn you upward? How He has widened your understanding? How He has entrusted you with deeper truth? When God reveals something to you, begin at once to weave that truth into your life - apply it, live it and refuse to let it slip away. Revelation is meant to shape you, so stay in its light until it becomes part of your character.
Growth in grace is measured by the insight with which you understand where you are spiritually — the honesty to see your condition, the humility to respond, and the willingness to rise when He calls.
Have you heard Him say, Come up higher — not with your ears, but in the innermost part of your character?
As this four‑day journey draws to its close, there is one more truth to steady your heart.
There are things God cannot reveal until your character has grown strong enough to bear them. As Scripture says, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing?” God withholds revelation for the sake of mercy — waiting until the soul is steady enough to receive what He longs to show.
Today, the invitation is simple and profound:
Friend, come up higher.
This reflection completes the four‑day journey we’ve been walking — from seeing Christ as the Bridegroom, the true Counselor of every heart; to living as His friend in daily, vital intimacy; to receiving the grace of purity that comes to those whose lives move in harmony with Him, the purity that keeps our vision clear because the pure in heart see God; and now to the character that rises when He calls. You have been given grace, you have grown in grace, you have received insight and woven it into your life — and God looks upon you as His friend and says, “Friend, come up higher.” Each day has drawn us a little further into the life that is centered in Him, shaped by Him, and lifted by His grace. May these devotionals continue to steady your steps as you follow Him upward.
