Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest
John 14:9
"Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?"
...He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Philip stood in front of Jesus and still asked to see the Father. Jesus told him that seeing Him was seeing the Father. God was right there, and Philip didn’t recognize Him. We are the same way. God is with us, guiding us, steadying us, revealing Himself in quiet ways — yet we often look for something dramatic. Faith is trusting the God we cannot see, the God who is already here.
Philip was asking out of longing — the same longing we feel.
This is where Chambers presses us.
We don’t hurt the Lord by weakness or confusion.
We hurt Him when we overlook what He has already given.
When we ask Him to prove what He has already said.
When we search for a dramatic sign instead of recognizing His presence in the quiet now.
God does not exhibit Himself to His children in constant experiences.
He exhibits Himself in His children — in trust, in obedience, in the steady posture of a heart that takes Him at His word.
A troubled heart often means we are waiting for something more, something future, something dramatic.
But Jesus calls us back to simplicity:
“Let not your heart be troubled.”
Not because life is easy, but because He is here.
The freedom comes when we stop looking ahead for what God might do and receive the truth of what He is doing now.
He guides in the present moment.
He reveals Himself in the ordinary.
He is not far off.
He is not hidden.
He is not waiting to make Himself known.
He is here — and that is enough.
Steady me in the simplicity of trust.
