The disciples knew that feeling in Gethsemane. They slept through the one hour Jesus asked them to watch. And when they woke, the weight of it must have crushed them — the sense of having missed a holy moment, of having disappointed the One they loved most. We know that feeling too. The moment we say, “It’s ruined now… what’s the point in trying anymore.” It is such an ordinary human ache, yet it feels so final when we’re in it. But Jesus does something astonishing in that garden. He does not scold. He does not rehearse their failure. He does not ask them to fix what cannot be fixed. His mercies rise with the morning light, steady and sure. Prayer Lord, You cause the sun to shine on us every day,  and the moon to rise for light at night. Every morning Your mercies begin anew.
