May 23: Matthew 6:25 — Our Unbelief (Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest)

A narrow dirt path winding through a quiet forest of tall redwood trees, with soft golden sunlight streaming through the branches and illuminating the way ahead.

Learning to Put God First in a World Full of Distractions

Matthew 6:25
"... do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on"

Today Chambers digs deeper into the personal places of our lives — but truly, it is the Lord Jesus Himself who is doing the digging. Matthew 6:25 is part of the Sermon on the Mount, and Chambers reminds us: Do not take the pressure of your provision upon yourself.

We are not meant to carry the weight of our own needs.
We are not meant to worry about the practical details of our lives.
We are meant to seek first the Kingdom of God — to put Him first in everything.

Before you buy a new book…
Before you plan a vacation…
Before you make any decision at all…
Put God first.
Seek His approval. Seek His guidance. He may have other plans for you — and for your money, your time, your energy, your life.

Matthew 13:22 tells us that “the cares of this world” choke the Word out of us. Not the devil. Not persecution. Not tragedy.
The cares.
The little worries.
The daily distractions.

Do you ever read Scripture in the morning, feel its truth, feel its weight…
and then the phone rings, someone invites you somewhere, something pulls your attention —
and the Word is gone?
Gone... with the wind in your hair as you rush out the door.

This is how it happens.
If we do not keep the Word — think about it, meditate on it, hold it in our heart, mind, and soul — the world will snatch it right out of us.

So we must build discipline.
We must create habits that keep the Word alive in us after we hear it or read it.
If we want to grow spiritually…
If we want the life only Jesus can give…
We must create habits that keep Him first.

We cannot live as the world lives anymore if we want to have a Jesus life.

———
I need to tell you something… I am so passionate about this because I lived most of my life not living for Jesus.

I made decisions on my own.
I carried my own burdens.
I worried about everything.
I tried to provide for myself.
I planned my own way.

And I wish I had not.

But here is the truth that gives me peace:
If I had not lived the way I did... I would not be here today writing this devotional.
I would not be able to see this so clearly.
I would not have this urgency.
I would not have this testimony.
God has used every wrong turn, every heavy burden, every anxious moment to teach me what I now know — and what I now share with you.

I don't say this with regret — I say it with gratitude.
Because God wastes nothing.
He redeemed my worry, my wandering, even my self-reliance.

So I can say this with complete certainty:
Life works when God is first.
Life breaks when He is not.

Jesus calls us to abandon — to give up our life, pick up our cross, and follow Him.
And He tells us not to worry because He is with us.
He will take care of us.
He knows when He is first in our life — the Holy Spirit sees it, feels it, responds to it.
So put Him first.

Stop worrying about today.
Place all your cares at His feet.
Follow Him.
Trust Him.
Obey Him — even when you cannot see the rest of the day ahead of you.
That is faith.
That is discipleship.
That is abandon.
Chambers said the greatest word of Jesus to His disciples was abandon.

Remember Abraham — he left his home not knowing where he was going, but he was led by God.
Remember Moses — led by God to the edge of the Red Sea with the Egyptian army behind them… and God parted the waters. Israel walked through. Their enemies did not.
Just like your troubles will not — when you put all your hope and trust in the Lord.

Prayer
Lord, you know my heart, I want others to see You the way I see You.
Loving, kind, wonderful...
You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords,
yet I come to You like a little girl curling up in her Father's lap.
You are my strength, and my hiding place—
where I come all the time because I feel safe here.
And Lord... I do sometimes wish I had known then what I know now.
But if I had lived differently,
I would not be here today—
writing these words, baring my soul,
confessing my ignorance and my lack of saintliness,
and thanking You with tears in my eyes
for bringing me to this place of truth.

Open the spiritual eyes, minds, and hearts of all who come here.
Reveal Yourself to them.
Knock on the doors of their hearts.
Draw them to You like a moth to the flame.
remove the veil from their eyes so they can truly see You.
Let them feel Your presence—
let them sense the Holy Spirit moving within them with Power,
so they know You are alive, active, and exactly what they've been seeking.

Lord, I praise You and thank You
for pulling me out of the mire of my own life
and giving me Yours.
I couldn't ask for more.
I am Yours.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Present (John 14:9)

Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest Devotional of the Day — Home Page John 14:9 "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?" ...He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Philip stood in front of Jesus and still asked to see the Father. Jesus told him that seeing Him was seeing the Father. God was right there, and Philip didn’t recognize Him. We are the same way. God is with us, guiding us, steadying us, revealing Himself in quiet ways — yet we often look for something dramatic. Faith is trusting the God we cannot see, the God who is already here.   Philip wasn't asking out of rebellion.  Philip was asking out of longing — the same longing we feel. But Jesus’ response reveals something deeper:  “Have I been with you so long, and you still don’t know Me?” We want to see God with our eyes, hear Him with our ears, and sense His nearness the way we sense another person in the room. Meaning of Forgiveness: Key Bible Verses, Jesus' Command to Forgive, How to Forgive, and a Prayer

Devotional of the Day — Home Page Summary:  Meaning of Forgiveness Forgiveness is at the center of the gospel — Jesus commands it, models it, and makes it possible through His sacrifice. We are forgiven of every sin, even those not yet committed, and invited to receive His grace with childlike humility. Because God has forgiven us so completely, we are called to release grudges, let go of past hurts, and forgive others from the heart. Forgiveness does not require confronting anyone; it is a private act between you and God, a cleansing that frees your spirit. When forgiveness feels impossible, we can lay our pain at His feet and ask Him to remove the bitterness we cannot overcome alone. Sometimes the hardest forgiveness is toward ourselves, but Jesus meets us there too. God invites us to surrender every burden and receive His healing grace. Dec 2: 1 Peter 5:7 Do Not Worry (Daily Verse & Prayer)

Devotional of the Day — Home Page 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you ." — KJV Worry has a way of creeping into our hearts, especially when life feels uncertain. Yet this verse reminds us that we are not meant to carry the weight alone. God’s care is not distant or abstract — it is personal, tender, and constant. Every detail of our lives matters to Him. When we release our burdens into His hands, we exchange anxiety for peace. It doesn’t mean the challenges disappear, but it does mean we walk through them with courage, knowi ng the Lord is holding us steady. Today, let us practice surrender by naming our worries and laying them before Him, trusting His love to carry what we cannot. Prayer Father, I lay my worries at Your feet.  Please give me calm for my mind and courage for my work, and remind me -   You hold every detail.  In Jesus' precious, holy name I pray, Amen.  I pray your day be free from worry and your mind calm, ~ Quil ...
