May 8: Revelation 3:10 — The Aim of God (Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest)

Target symbol with an arrow in the center on a motley blue background.

Revelation 3:10“Because you have kept My command to persevere…”

There are seasons when God feels less like a gentle shepherd and more like an archer — pulling, stretching, drawing us back farther than we ever wanted to go. Chambers says God stretches us until His purpose is in sight, and only then does He release the arrow.

Some days, that stretch feels holy.
Other days, it feels unbearable.

But perseverance is not passive suffering. It is not “just hang on.”
It is active trust — the kind that keeps saying, “Lord, I don’t understand this stretch, but I trust the One holding me.”

Chambers reminds us that faith is not emotion.
It is not inspiration.
It is not spiritual adrenaline.

Faith is confidence in God’s character — especially when His methods confuse us.

It is the supreme effort of throwing ourselves with total abandon on the God who is holy love — love that is pure, wise, and incapable of failing.

What is Faith?
Faith begins in the heart as inner trust — this is the root
It starts as trust in God's character. "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ," (Romans 10:17).
The heart says: "I believe You."
This is spiritual sight — the ability to trust God even when nothing makes sense.

Faith lives in the mind as conviction — this is the anchor
Faith shapes how you think, how you interpret life, how you understand what's happening.
Hebrews 11:1 says: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
Substance is something solid.
Evidence is something proven.
Faith is not vague.
It is certainty based on who God is.

Faith proves itself in action as obedience — this is the fruit
If trust never becomes action, it isn't faith — it's theory.
James 2:17 says, "Faith without works is dead."
Not because works saves you but because real faith always moves your feet.
  • Noah built the ark.
  • Abraham left his home.
  • Moses lifted the staff.
  • Peter stepped out of the boat.
  • The woman with the issue of blood reached for His garment.
Faith acts because it trusts.

So, what is Faith?
Faith is trusting God so deeply that you obey Him even when you cannot see the outcome.

It starts in the heart, settles in the mind, and shows up in your steps.
If it stays in your mind only it is not faith, it's opinion.
Faith is spiritual, mental, and active.
But not action alone.
Action is the evidence of faith, not the source of it.

Faith is Jesus' own faith alive in you, moving you to trust and obey Him
That is why it feels impossible in your own strength.
Because it is
Faith is not something you generate.

It is something Jesus gives, sustains, and expresses through you.

There are places in our lives where that kind of faith has not yet taken root — places where fear still whispers, where control still clings, where disappointment still stings. But Jesus had no such places. And the Spirit is shaping us into that same steady, unwavering life.

Eternal life, Jesus said, is knowing God (John 17:3).
Not knowing the plan.
Not knowing the timeline.
Not knowing the outcome.

Knowing Him.

And when we know Him — really know Him — we can face anything without wavering, because the One who holds us cannot fail.

If you feel stretched today, it is not punishment.
It is preparation.
It is discipline that leads to power.
It is God aiming your life at something you cannot yet see.

And when the moment is right, He will release you — not broken, but directed.

Today, I choose confidence in God’s character over the comfort of understanding.

PRAYER
Father,
You see the places in me that feel stretched thin.
You know the fears I don’t say out loud.
Teach me to trust Your hands even when I cannot see Your purpose.
Anchor me in the truth that You are holy love — steady, faithful, unchanging.
Give me the perseverance that comes from intimacy with Jesus.
Strengthen me to stand, to wait, and to believe.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Present (John 14:9)

Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest Devotional of the Day — Home Page John 14:9 "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?" ...He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Philip stood in front of Jesus and still asked to see the Father. Jesus told him that seeing Him was seeing the Father. God was right there, and Philip didn’t recognize Him. We are the same way. God is with us, guiding us, steadying us, revealing Himself in quiet ways — yet we often look for something dramatic. Faith is trusting the God we cannot see, the God who is already here.   Philip wasn't asking out of rebellion.  Philip was asking out of longing — the same longing we feel. But Jesus’ response reveals something deeper:  “Have I been with you so long, and you still don’t know Me?” We want to see God with our eyes, hear Him with our ears, and sense His nearness the way we sense another person in the room. Meaning of Forgiveness: Key Bible Verses, Jesus' Command to Forgive, How to Forgive, and a Prayer

Devotional of the Day — Home Page Summary:  Meaning of Forgiveness Forgiveness is at the center of the gospel — Jesus commands it, models it, and makes it possible through His sacrifice. We are forgiven of every sin, even those not yet committed, and invited to receive His grace with childlike humility. Because God has forgiven us so completely, we are called to release grudges, let go of past hurts, and forgive others from the heart. Forgiveness does not require confronting anyone; it is a private act between you and God, a cleansing that frees your spirit. When forgiveness feels impossible, we can lay our pain at His feet and ask Him to remove the bitterness we cannot overcome alone. Sometimes the hardest forgiveness is toward ourselves, but Jesus meets us there too. God invites us to surrender every burden and receive His healing grace. Dec 2: 1 Peter 5:7 Do Not Worry (Daily Verse & Prayer)

Devotional of the Day — Home Page 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you ." — KJV Worry has a way of creeping into our hearts, especially when life feels uncertain. Yet this verse reminds us that we are not meant to carry the weight alone. God’s care is not distant or abstract — it is personal, tender, and constant. Every detail of our lives matters to Him. When we release our burdens into His hands, we exchange anxiety for peace. It doesn’t mean the challenges disappear, but it does mean we walk through them with courage, knowi ng the Lord is holding us steady. Today, let us practice surrender by naming our worries and laying them before Him, trusting His love to carry what we cannot. Prayer Father, I lay my worries at Your feet.  Please give me calm for my mind and courage for my work, and remind me -   You hold every detail.  In Jesus' precious, holy name I pray, Amen.  I pray your day be free from worry and your mind calm, ~ Quil ...
