Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest
Romans 1:14
"I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians . . ."
My Life’s Spiritual Honor and Duty
Paul carried an overwhelming sense of indebtedness to Jesus Christ. He never saw himself as a superior Christian, never as someone “above” others. He saw himself as a bondservant — someone whose life was purchased by Christ and belonged entirely to Christ.Chambers says that every valuable part of my life is the result of Christ’s redemption. My peace, my hope, my transformation, my ability to love — none of it came from me. All of it came from Him. And because of that, my life is not my own. It is His.
This is what Paul means when he says, “I am a debtor.” Not a debtor to people — a debtor to Christ.
And because of that debt of love, Paul spent his life enabling Christ to bring redemption into the lives of others by being available, surrendered, and willing.
This is spiritual honor. This is spiritual duty. This is the life of a bondservant.
Chambers says, “Quit praying about yourself and spend your life for the sake of others.” He is not telling me to neglect myself — he is telling me to live inwardly in Christ so He can live outwardly through me, pouring my life out like broken bread and poured-out wine.
In surrender, love, and availability.
Spiritual honor means letting Christ use my life so His redemption becomes real in someone else's life.
