Trust in God's Hidden Purpose
Learning to Rest in What God Has Not Explained
We could look at Jesus Christ's life from man's viewpoint and think it was an absolute disaster. God called Jesus to His purpose and Jesus called His disciples—and led them to a place which broke their hearts—His death on the cross.
It seemed that Jesus' life was a complete failure because He died so young and never built anything, opened a school, or established a healing ministry here on earth. As far as man could see— Jesus was just a good teacher, and the headlines might read: "teacher dies a tragic death at age 33."
But from God's standpoint—Jesus' life and death were a complete triumph. Jesus completed the purpose of God by His death on the cross. But it was a hidden purpose, some of the reasons even now coming to light on earth to man's reasoning.
God's purpose is never the same as man's. God's call for Jesus Christ was not an absolute disaster as man would view it, but a complete and utter Crown of Glory for the Son of Man—the Son of God.
And for us.
So, when God calls one of us, it is a hidden thing, perceived only by the one called. And what He calls us to cannot be stated out loud to others. Because God has not revealed His purpose—only that He called, and we have been appointed to do something. We do not know any of the particulars, which everyone wants to know, ourselves included. We only know "go," "do."
When this is new to us we strive to know the "rest of the story." But God's purposes are hidden to us. Because we cannot understand the mind of God. Even if He were to tell us His purpose, it would be above our ability to comprehend. And it is not our business to know God's purposes. Only that they are God's mysteriously divine purposes and He uses them to shape us into oneness.
Who can know the mind of God... not us. As we grow as Christians we begin to realize that God's purpose is behind all points of our lives. We begin to understand that we do not need to be privy to all the underlying reasons behind God's purpose. We simply accept the fact that God's wisdom prevails, and this leads us to rest in the knowledge that God is in control and we do not need to know everything.
His divine purpose is divine wisdom and we do not have it. We do not need to worry. God has got us in the palm of His mighty right hand and that is all we need to know.
Go... Do... Let God have the rest.
Prayer
Lord,
teach me to trust Your hidden purposes even when I do not understand Your ways.
Quiet my desire to know every detail, and strengthen my heart to obey when You say ‘go’ and ‘do.’
Help me rest in Your sovereignty, knowing You hold my life in Your hand.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
