June 4: Hebrews 13:5 — When You Think You've Failed God (Today's Reading: My Utmost for His Highest)
Hebrews 13:5 “He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’
There are days when we fear our failures more than anything else. Days when we wonder if we’ve disappointed God, failed Him again, or fallen short one too many times. Even a surrendered heart can stumble. Even a yielded life can make mistakes.
“I will never leave you… not for any reason.”
Not for your sin. Not for your weakness. Not for your stubbornness. Not for your waywardness. Not for your inconsistency. Not for your humanity.
We often repeat God’s promises without ever letting them sink into the deepest places of our hearts. Chambers asks, “Have I really let God say to me that He will never leave me?” Not just read it... but did I hear it — personally, intimately, undeniably.
Sometimes it isn’t the big trials that make us doubt His nearness. It’s the ordinary days — the quiet, uneventful, unremarkable days when nothing feels spiritual or significant. The days when we aren’t doing anything “big” for God. The days when we feel dull, tired, or distracted. The days when we simply live.
But even there God whispers: “I will never forsake you.”
God is glorifying Himself in us right now —
in the ordinary, in the unseen, in the imperfect,
and in the days we fall short.
His presence is not fragile. His love is not conditional. His nearness is not based on our performance.
He stays. He holds. He keeps. He never leaves.
And when we finally believe that — really believe it — the most amazing strength becomes ours. With God's promise giving us strength, we learn to have joy in our hearts and glorify Him even on our most ordinary of days.
Breath Prayer: I believe your promise, Lord — You will never leave me.
